Welcome to the 2009 iTeam Avon Walk training blog! For the third year, we will train together, encourage each other, and raise as much money as we can for breast cancer research, prevention, and treatment.
We all have our personal reasons for walking. We are a team of women and men, survivors and supporters, parents and children...and every one of us has been touched by this horrible disease. What's more, we know very few people who haven't.
This year, breast cancer came knocking at our collective door--it has attacked our friend and colleague Irene. We dedicate this year's Walk effort, every last dollar and mile, to her fight. We know she is young and strong...much stronger than the cancer she's fighting. We walk in her honor, and in the continuing hope that we will see a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.
Our posts here will chronicle our training and fundraising. The DC Avon Walk is the first weekend in May, so we've got 50 days 'til we have to walk 26.2 miles (or 39.3!)! We welcome your comments, encouragement, tips, tricks...and donations!
