Mileage Recs for this week

As promised, here's how many miles Avon says you should rack up this week (Monday to Sunday):

For the 26.2-mile total: 30 miles this week (longest walk: 11 miles)

For the 39.3-mile total: 36 miles this week (longest walk: 16 miles)

Check out the full training schedule (pages 11 and 14) to help you break it down.

Training Round-up

Thanks to Andy, a couple of us got out there on Saturday for the usual Vienna route. If you count Michelle's dog Miles (and I think we should), we were split 50/50 between active team walkers and support walkers.

The whole group did 5 miles together on Saturday, and Betsy, Eileen, and I tacked on 2 more. I got out with my friends' dog on Sunday and put in about 11 miles on Sunday -- I experienced a pedometer FAIL, but it's a route I've taken before.

All in all, Monday to Sunday, I put in 21 miles last week. I admit it -- I'm a little behind.

Here's where you should be for weekly mileage, according to Avon's training plans:
  • Planning on 26.2 miles?
Your suggested weekly total for last week: 25
  • Planning on 39.3 miles?
Your suggested weekly total for last week: 27
How're y'all doing, mileage-wise?

Welcome!

Welcome to the 2009 iTeam Avon Walk training blog! For the third year, we will train together, encourage each other, and raise as much money as we can for breast cancer research, prevention, and treatment.

We all have our personal reasons for walking. We are a team of women and men, survivors and supporters, parents and children...and every one of us has been touched by this horrible disease. What's more, we know very few people who haven't.

This year, breast cancer came knocking at our collective door--it has attacked our friend and colleague Irene. We dedicate this year's Walk effort, every last dollar and mile, to her fight. We know she is young and strong...much stronger than the cancer she's fighting. We walk in her honor, and in the continuing hope that we will see a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.

Our posts here will chronicle our training and fundraising. The DC Avon Walk is the first weekend in May, so we've got 50 days 'til we have to walk 26.2 miles (or 39.3!)! We welcome your comments, encouragement, tips, tricks...and donations!
